Sunday School

Children’s Sunday School Classes Our youngest children (ages 2-3) follow a specific curriculum tailored more towards them and learn about the “Li?le Bible Heroes” each week! This Fall they will be taking adventures with the Heroes of Babylon, Creation, Noah, Joseph, Miriam, Moses, Joshua, Samuel, and Christmas.

The Children’s Sunday School (ages 4-5th grade) curriculum follows a theme and verse each month. The children have a variety of activities to help learn more about the theme. This Fall we are looking at Friendships, God’s Gifts, Thanksgiving and Christmas and these verses help us to focus in on them.

September-Friendships-“Do not be misled: Bad company corrupts good character.” 1 Corinthians 15:33

October-God’s Gifts-“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians 2:10

November-Thanksgiving-“Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.”

December-Christmas-“Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!” 2 Corinthians 9:15

There are numerous activities offered at Friedberg for children-some taking place during the Sunday School hour and others happening at various James. These are led by our Children’s Ministry Director, Heidi Everhart along with a great team of leaders!

Youth Sunday School-During the Fall, the middle and high school youth will study the disciples and several apostles in the Fall Semester.

In September and October, we’ll dig into the lives of the twelve disciples to find out why they decided to follow Jesus. In November and December, we will study the life of Paul, Timothy, and Barnabas to discover why they were willing to be persecuted for sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ.

The middle school and high school Sunday School classes are a part of the Friedberg Youth Ministry. There are many different events that take place throughout the summer and all are invited to participate in the ministry which is led by our Youth Director, Karen Hill.

The Revival Class is for college youth and young adults with ages ranging from 18 – 30. We have about 10-15 attendees every Sunday, and are a laid back group who enjoy catching up and talking about God’s message together. For Fall, we will be focusing on the first season of “The Chosen” and watching the episodes and having discussions about them each week. If you are a college student, we welcome you to join us any Jme you are home!

Fellowship Class-Class members range in age from 30- 65 and we have about 15-20 regular attendees. Our mission is to teach and share the word of Jesus. We sell chicken pies all year long, we serve food at the Youth Bazaar every year and any other fund-raisers we can get involved in. We volunteer for Touching Davidson County with Love, we sponsor community projects regularly including the backpack program at Griffith Elementary, and we adopt families at Christmas and during the year as well. Our mission is to help in the community as much as we can and therefore to raise the money to do all we can. We do some Bible studies and enjoy variety in our curriculum. We have begun a new study called Explore the Bible and this Fall we will focus in on Mark.

The Discovery Class is made up of both couples and singles of all ages. Whether in your 30s or approaching 90, you are welcome to come, bring your Bible and grow along with us. We currently have approximately 40 members enrolled in the class and Ed Steward is the teacher . For curriculum our class members vote on what book of the Bible we want to study. The format includes reading scripture, lecture and discussion. No quarterly is used. The Discovery Class hosts the Shrove Tuesday Pancake Dinner before Easter and we have an annual Christmas party in December. Throughout the year we help with various activities in the life of the church.

The Covenant Class is made up of members from ages 50 to 70 plus years old. We enjoy good fellowship and caring about each other. We use the David C. Cook literature as our lesson study guide. We hope to schedule some class socials soon . We have an oyster stew in February, in the summer we have a hotdog supper and at Christmas we have heavy finger foods with games and fellowship. Our mission is to serve our Lord Jesus Christ and to help others that are in need of financial assistance or just an encouraging word.

The Disciples Class is made up of people from all different ages and stages in their lives. We have members in their teens and as old as – well, older than we like to count! We also have couples, singles and complete families. This class mostly uses selections from Right Now Media as the foundation for our lessons. We oTen use lessons from authors such as Tony Evans, Max Lucado, Andy Stanley and Frances Chan. For the Fall semester we will be doing the following studies “Doing Good.” by Chip Ingram, “The Power of Knowing God.” by Tony Evans and “Advent.” by Derwin Gray. You can find us any Sunday morning enjoying coffee and fellowship. Class time begins at 9:45 a.m. but if you are running late, please feel free to come on in. The class supports Hoof and Paw therapeutic riding center and remains flexible to assist with situation that arise in our church and community. We have also participated in the Backpack program for school children, assisted other Sunday School classes with their missions, and collected items for groups in need in our community. We have been blessed for several years to help Operation North State Box with their Christmas outreach specific to North Carolina veterans and soldiers stationed overseas or in the reserves. We would love to have you visit us!

The Willing Workers Class-We love to visit before class begins but start promptly at 9:45 to give our talented group of teachers time for the lesson. Some of us even come early (9:00 a.m.) so that we can visit and talk. Our class is growing, and we have moved into the Discovery Classroom on the ground floor to give us more space. This new area gives class members the ability to move about freely and catch up with others. We do have an active class and are always looking for projects. The offering we collect during the Sunday School hour is recorded and donated throughout the year to worthy projects based on recommendations by class members. We begin class with a song and prayer, recognize birthdays and anniversaries, and share prayer requests and praises with the group. We love to discuss the lessons with our teachers and use the David C. Cook quarterly as our lesson guide. We have 2 dinners; a post-Christmas dinner in January and a June get together at the home of Travis and Evva Hanes. We have started a Ladies Night Out with the class members and go to a restaurant for either lunch or dinner once a month. This helps us strengthen our Jes with others in the class and allows us to get to know one another be?er. We have a wonderful, loving, caring, class that loves to study and discuss God’s Word together. If you currently do not have a Sunday School Class or are considering joining one – we would love to have you visit! All ages are welcome!

The Pathways Class is a laid back, conversational class where everyone shares and speaks in a seminar format. We typically study books of the Bible or sections of Scripture but also do video studies and Bible studies on Christian books.

During the Fall, the Pathways class will be finishing up their study of 1st and 2nd Kings and then begin Tim Mackie’s study on Right Now Media on the themes of the Bible.
