Plan a visit
We always strive to create a welcoming atmosphere for visitors, however we also understand that visiting a new church can leave people feeling a bit apprehensive. We hope that the information on this page can ease uncertainties and make your first time at Friedberg more meaningful and stress-free.
We're at 2178 Friedberg Church Road, about halfway between Winston-Salem and Lexington. There are two parking lots, one by the sanctuary and one by the Family Life Center, plus handicap spots right up front.
Whatever you have on. On a given Sunday you will see suits and you will see jeans, and nobody is counting. "Come as you are" is basically our unofficial motto.
You've already got a sense of the flavor -- hymns, brass, and a lot of care put into tradition. A regular Sunday isn't a candlelight service, but you'll recognize the family resemblance. Think of it as a friendly, low-key introduction to the bigger Moravian story you've been hearing about around here.
Music from our brass and wind band starts at 9:00, Sunday school is at 9:45, and the main worship service is at 11:00 in the sanctuary. If you can't make it in person, the 11:00 service is livestreamed on YouTube and our website.
Not at all. Nursery is available for infants and toddlers for the full 11:00 service. Kids in pre-K through 5th grade start the service with everyone else, hear a short Children's sermon, and then head down to the Children's Center in the Family Life Center for Children's Church. Signage is posted throughout the building, so it's easy to find. Just plan to pick them up right after the service ends.
It's held at 9:45, before the main service, and works more like a small group -- Bible study, discussion, and getting to know people, with classes broken out by age for the kids. It's optional for visitors, but a good way to meet people if you're up for the earlier start.
It's traditional -- hymns from the Moravian Book of Worship, organ, and choir. Every so often the choir sings something more contemporary, or the congregation does, if it fits the sermon that week.
Communion is open to all believers regardless of denomination, so there's nothing you need to have done ahead of time. Baptism at Friedberg is by sprinkling rather than full immersion. Either way, there's no expectation that visitors participate in a particular way.
We do pass offering plates during the service, but as a guest you're not expected to give anything. No signatures, no standing up, no introductions required. You're welcome to just observe on your first visit.
Not at all. In short, we're a mainline Christian church rooted in the essentials of the faith: Jesus, the Trinity, and Scripture. Our unofficial motto sums up how we hold everything else: "In essentials, unity; in non-essentials, liberty; in all things, love." You don't need to know any of it to feel welcome on Sunday.
People are friendly, so you may get a warm hello, but there's no spotlight and nothing that puts you on the spot. Ushers are happy to help you find the nursery, Children's Center, or a seat, but otherwise you're free to just settle in.
