The Blessing Box at Friedberg Moravian Church serves as a valuable resource for the local community, allowing individuals to take what they need and, if possible, replace it with something for someone else. It reflects the understanding that everyone needs a helping hand at times, and as Christians, we are instructed to love our neighbor as ourselves.
Blessing Boxes have emerged in communities across the nation, demonstrating a creative way to support those facing hunger. Each small act of kindness contributes to the well-being of the community, and a Blessing Box can make a meaningful difference. As Matthew 25 reminds us, “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in.”
Unlike traditional food pantries, which have limited hours of operation, Blessing Boxes are accessible 24/7, 365 days a year. They are considered neutral zones, available to anyone who has a hunger need, regardless of hardship, income status, or other factors, with no qualifications or approvals required.
Friedberg’s Blessing Box was installed on the church grounds in the Fall of 2019. It is regularly stocked with items to assist those in need, ranging from non-perishable foods to toiletries, helping to meet the short-term basic needs of those who may lack access to these essentials.
